Net bra vs lace bra: which one suits you?

A net bra is made from an open-weave mesh, so it is the lightest bra you can wear. Lace has a raised, patterned surface and a softer, slightly heavier feel. Many net bras carry lace trim, which is why the two get mixed up when you shop. The real differences show up in how they breathe, how they sit under clothes, and what they ask of you in care.

Full net, half net and structured net

A full net bra has net across the whole cup, so it feels soft and light but gives gentle shaping rather than lift. A half net bra pairs a net or lace upper with a solid or lightly padded lower cup, which gives a rounder shape. 3. Check whether the style is wireless or underwire, since the two fit differently at the band and under the bust.
4. Wear the bra on the loosest hook first. Move to a tighter hook as the elastic relaxes over time.

How to wash a net bra so it lasts

Net is delicate. Most damage comes from the washing machine and from wringing, not from wearing. A few habits make the difference between a bra that lasts a few weeks and one that lasts a year.

• Hand wash in cool water with a mild detergent, and press gently rather than rubbing the cups.
• If you must use a machine, put the bra in a mesh laundry bag and use a gentle cycle with the hooks fastened.
• Never wring or twist. Press the water out with a towel.
• Dry flat or hang by the centre front, away from direct sunlight and heaters, which wear out the elastic.
• Rotate three or four bras instead of wearing one daily, so the elastic can recover between wears.

How to spot a good net bra before you buy

• The band elastic springs back when you stretch it gently.
• Edges are neatly finished with no loose threads or rough trim against the skin.
• The back closure has two or three hook rows, not a single hook.
• The net feels smooth and does not snag on your fingernails.
• The size label is clear and the brand label is stitched in, not printed on a loose tag.
